COUNTDOWN TO TRANSFORMATION :: SUPPORT MYCELIUM's (R)EVOLUTIONARY LEARNING MODEL TODAY

[articlequote]A LEARNING ORGANIZATION THAT IS WORKING TO CRACK THE CODE OF EDUCATION FOR OUR TIMES.[/articlequote]
Last spring, as part of our ongoing Awesome Creator profile series, we introduced you to a human so aptly suited to that title: Matthew Abrams — educator, forward thinker, instigator, entrepreneur, lifehacker and founder of the incredible, forward thinking Mycelium School. You can also tune in to a spirited discussion on Art as a Vehicle of Transformation — one of Mycelium’s Talk Purpose virtual roundtables, hosted on The OS as one of our Re:Conversations.
Now, they’re approaching the public — sharing their story, the opportunities the school presents, and asking for support via a crowd funding campaign now in its last days. I encourage you to read more about Mycelium here, watch the videos, get involved, send young people there… and if you can, pledge to support this essential new educational model. They’re asking for even a dollar as a token of your support. I think we can all handle that.

[h5] What is Mycelium? [/h5]
[box] The mycelium organism is the root system of mushrooms; an underground network that connects to the roots of plants and trees and distributes nutrients and information to support the health of the whole ecosystem. This adaptive, pro-health organism is a teacher for us as we ask, “How can humans more successfully interact with each other in ways that nourish ourselves, each other and the world.”
The Mycelium organization is a learning community that hosts experiments in education, works to support the evolution of the entire field of education and cultivates a network of change agents. We create experiences that engage, nourish and weave a living, learning network for social transformation. We collaborate with many amazing individuals and organizations that are a part of this emerging ecosystem in education and that are also dedicated to having a positive influence in the world.

A year later, Mycelium has grown (and adapted, as befitting their mission), and is currently raising money to support their upcoming programs, particularly the “Learning Journey” model which has proved to be exceptionally successful in its pilot iteration.
I have been incredibly inspired by the Mycelium team and its myriad collaborators from a wide range of fields. We all know that our traditional education system is deeply, perhaps fatally flawed — mired in strategies with complex political and fiduciary agendas that do neither serve their student bodies nor the global citizens they will become as result.
Here’s another video from Matthew Abrams at TEDxNewHaven, talking about 21st Century Education.
See if his words don’t spark something in you, too.
